Following the retrospective on Bryan M. Ferguson’s films, the Scottish filmmaker shows us what it means to create a short film in this master class. Bryan is responsible for a number of diverse tasks before, while, and after shooting his films: script, direction, photography, editing, production, colour and sound design – the list of variables that intertwine while making a film seems to be incalculable for the uninitiated. The audience rarely sees a finished film on-screen and has any idea of the hours of work that it takes to finish it, and that, quite often, spontaneous disasters show up on set. In this master class, far away from seminar rooms and entirely informal, Bryan is going to show us what exactly is going on behind his scenes – if we can take it!
